Poco - Week One.
We got a pup! What a handful. This is Poco, she's a 7 weeks old Alaskan Malamute. We got her a week earlier than we anticipated, which threw off a bit of our scheduling but glad we got her when we did. We got her from a breeder in just past London, ON called Ironpride. They have a few championship show malamutes. They breed their Malamutes be the long hair gene carriers. This means that their malamutes look just a bit more fluffier but without the concern of a full long coat.
We originally wanted to get a liter from their Savvy and Gale. We were originally going to get that litter back in February, but Savvy had a false pregnancy and we were offered a female from the Fox and Ray litter. We weren't particularly fussed whether it was a male or female so we decided to get one from this litter to get our pup faster. The litter had 8 pups, 4 females and 4 males, and we got to select which female we preferred. We told the breeder that we waned a more quieter and affectionate personality from the litter, and we got Poco.
Poco is adorable, She is very friendly with other humans; a stranger is just a new best friend she hasn't met yet. She's a really fast learner, but she's also very stubborn. After she learns a skill, she'll talk back if you try to repeat/reinforce it. It's sometimes adorable, but also sometimes frustrating. She also has this weird habit of dunking her front paws and head into her water bowl when drinking. This constantly makes a mess that we have to clean up after so she doesn't completely destroy the hardwood floor.
